Poker is a card game where players wager money to try to get the best possible hand. Depending on the type of poker, the winner takes home all the money in the pot. Some games require a specific amount of chips to be put in the pot at the beginning of the game. In no limit games, there is usually unlimited betting during the betting round.<\/p>\n
Players start the game by putting a certain number of chips into a pot, called the ante. Before the game starts, the poker dealer assigns values to the chips. Then, each player is dealt five cards.<\/p>\n
The first card is dealt face up. Next, the dealer “burns” or cuts the top card from the deck. This card is the kicker, which is the highest rank card in any hand.<\/p>\n
After the cards are cut, the player on the dealer’s left can take one new card from the top of the deck. He or she then may discard or bet a certain number of chips.<\/p>\n
Another betting interval follows. The player to the left of the big blind can either raise or check. If the player to the left of the big blind does not call, the next player to the left has the right to raise or check.<\/p>\n
