Whether you play poker professionally or just for fun, there are certain rules to follow. Knowing the unwritten rules of poker can help you win more and enhance the atmosphere at the table.

Poker is a gambling game played by a group of players around an oval or circular table. Each player receives five cards. The player with the best hand wins the pot.

A poker hand is a combination of five cards, ranked from Ace to Jack. The best five-card combination in poker is a straight flush. Other combinations include three of a kind, four of a kind, two pair and a straight.

The game can be played with a standard pack of 52 cards or with multiple packs. Some games use wild cards that can take any suit.

When more than one player remains in the hand, a showdown takes place. During a showdown, the cards are revealed.

A high card can break ties, especially if there are more than one person who has a high card. A high card also breaks ties when multiple people have a high card of the same type. When multiple people have a high card of the same type, a high card can also win the pot.

Some poker games have Wild Cards. Wild Cards can take any suit and may be placed in the pot. In some games, a Wild Card is the only way to win a hand.

Some poker games use a dedicated dealer button. This button moves one spot clockwise after each hand. This is to make sure that the first person to deal gets to do so.
