The terms used in poker games refer to actions players take and to the different types of betting. Often, players will bet more chips as the hand progresses, creating larger pots in the process. Almost every variation of poker involves the use of poker chips. Games with seven or more players should supply chips. A white chip is the lowest-value chip, while a red chip is worth five or 10 whites. A blue chip can be worth two, four, or five reds. Players “buy in” to the game by purchasing chips. The cost to buy in is usually the same as the total amount of the chips that each player is putting into the game.
In the basic version of the game, players hold a hand of five cards. Their highest hand is the one with the most cards. The value of the hand is inversely proportional to its mathematical frequency.
